Texas Democratic Party

Approves Resolution Submitted By TCBD State Chair Matthews

The Texas Democratic Party has officially passed a resolution to protect six important congressional districts — the 9th, 18th, 28th, 29th, 33rd, and 34th.

These are strong, proud communities with deep Black and Latino roots. They’ve helped elect good leaders and stood up for civil rights for years. But now, those in power want to change the voting maps again to weaken our voice.

We won’t let that happen.

The Party has committed to:

  • Protecting our communities from unfair voting changes

  • Fighting back against efforts to take away our power

  • Holding public meetings if redistricting is proposed

  • Taking bold action—even breaking quorum—to stop any mid-decade redistricting scheme

This resolution was led by Dr. Candice Matthews, Chair of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats.

We are united. We are watching. And we are ready.

Let’s continue to stand together and speak out.

Our power is in our people and we’re just getting started.

STOP

The Republicans In their tracks to

push through a mid-decade redistricting that is sure to strip away representation from Black voters and giving Trump the power to continue to harm Black communities.

We Denounce Gregg Abbott

The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats (TCBD) strongly condemns Governor Greg Abbott’s recent deployment of the Texas National Guard across major Texas cities, including Dallas, San Antonio, Laredo, Houston, and Austin, in response to peaceful immigration-rights protests. These actions, executed without consultation or approval from local authorities, represent a blatant power grab that threatens constitutional rights to free speech, assembly, and equal protection under the law (as.com).

TCBD Calls out the hypocrisy of the in the GOP's attempt to censure Rep. Crockett

The GOP's move to censure Rep. Jasmine Crockett for her "Governor Hot Wheels" remark underscores a glaring double standard.

While Rep. Crockett clarified that her comment targeted Governor Abbott's policies, not his disability, Republicans have often overlooked or even endorsed offensive rhetoric within their own ranks. For instance, former President Trump's derogatory nicknames and mockery of disabilities have been met with no backlash from GOP leaders. Additionally, incidents like Rep. Nancy Mace's aggressive challenge to "take it outside" during a committee debate with Crockett have not led to similar censure efforts.

This selective outrage suggests a troubling pattern of racial hostility toward Black representatives, and shows the party's inconsistent standards when addressing offensive behavior.

TCBD Stands with Rep. Al Green in Defending Medicare and Protecting Democracy

The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats (TCBD) stands firmly with Rep. Al Green as he courageously pushes back against President Trump’s attempt to cut Medicare—an essential program that millions of Americans rely on for healthcare and dignity.

We respect the checks and balances of our government and expect Democrats at the Capitol to stand united in defending the rights and well-being of the people. Now, more than ever, we must work together to protect our democracy and ensure that critical programs like Medicare are preserved for future generations.

TCBD remains committed to fighting for justice, equity, and the preservation of the values that make our democracy strong. We urge all elected officials to hold the line and reject any efforts that threaten the well-being of our communities.
